Safeguarding a National Historic Landmark Through Thoughtful Tree Care
The Galveston Historical Foundation featured Eric Putnam BCMA Inc. following the carefully planned removal of a mature tree on the grounds of the 1892 Bishop’s Palace.
The work was performed using professional arboricultural practices appropriate for a National Historic Landmark. The controlled operation was planned to reduce impacts to the home, surrounding vegetation, historic features, and visitor areas.

Following the May 2024 derecho, the Houston Chronicle consulted Eric about widespread tree loss and the effects of fear-driven over-pruning.
Eric explained that excessive canopy reduction can diminish a tree’s ability to respond to wind energy. He also discussed the extensive loss of older trees located along the storm’s path.

Group works to save cemetery trees
The Houston Chronicle reported on efforts to preserve mature trees at Fairview Cemetery in League City after more than a dozen had been marked for possible removal.
Eric, identified through his earlier Arbor-Tech Consulting practice, evaluated the trees and identified preservation options for many of them, with removal reserved for trees that could not reasonably be saved.
