Thoughtful Tree Planting for Long-Term Success
Planting a tree is an investment in the future of your landscape. Long-term success depends on choosing the right tree, placing it in the right location, and installing it correctly from the start.
Our tree planting service is built around proper planning, careful installation, and attention to the conditions that affect how a tree establishes and grows. We evaluate the site, available space, and planting goals to ensure the tree is set up for long-term performance.
Our Approach to Tree Planting
Our tree planting method is built around long-term establishment, not just installation day. Within most of the Greater Houston Area, we may set the root ball slightly above grade, loosen a broad planting area, and shape the soil to improve drainage and encourage roots to expand beyond the planting hole. When stability is needed, we anchor the tree by driving stakes through the outer edge of the root ball into firm soil, helping prevent root ball movement without tying or restricting the trunk.

Our Tree Planting Process
1. Site Review and Tree Selection
We begin by reviewing the planting location, site conditions, drainage, and available space. This helps determine what type of tree is most appropriate for the setting and how it should be positioned for long-term growth.
2. Planting Depth and Root Preparation
Before planting, we inspect the root ball and identify the trunk flare so the tree is set at the proper height. Planting depth matters, and trees should not be installed too deep.
3. Proper Installation

We prepare the planting area, position the tree correctly, and backfill carefully to support establishment. Where drainage is limited, planting adjustments may be needed to avoid setting the root ball too low.
4. Establishment Guidance

After planting, we provide practical early care guidance to support establishment. The first stage of establishment matters, and the tree should be set up for good root development from day one.
Why Proper Tree Planting Matters
Many long-term tree problems begin at planting. Trees that are planted too deep, placed in poor locations, or installed without regard for site conditions often struggle long after the work is done.

A proper planting process helps reduce preventable stress and gives the tree a better start.

Common Questions About Tree Planting
How deep should a tree be planted?
A tree should be planted at the proper height so that the trunk flare is visible and the root ball is at or above the graded soil surface.
Does the location really matter that much?
Yes. Available space, drainage, light exposure, and long-term growth potential all affect how well a tree will perform.
Can you help choose the right tree for the site?
Yes. Tree selection is an important part of planting and should align with the property’s conditions and goals; our Certified Arborists can help you choose one.
What happens after planting?
New trees require supplemental watering on a strict schedule, and early establishment care, such as biostimulant treatments and pruning, is strongly recommended as the trees adjust to the site
